Our client is seeking a Water/Wastewater Practice Lead to establish and grow a high-performing water infrastructure practice in Raleigh, North Carolina. This strategic leadership role will oversee business development, technical delivery, team growth, and operational performance across municipal and utility-focused water and wastewater projects.


Our client is a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy delivering infrastructure, environmental, and development services to both public and private sector clients. The successful candidate will help shape long-term growth strategies while leading complex utility and water resource initiatives across multiple regional markets.


responsibilities.

  • Lead the growth and operational management of the water and wastewater practice

  • Develop and execute short-term and long-term strategic business plans

  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams delivering water and wastewater infrastructure projects

  • Oversee project financial performance, staffing allocation, scheduling, and quality assurance

  • Mentor and develop engineering professionals across the practice

  • Support recruitment, retention, and talent development initiatives

  • Prepare and negotiate project proposals, scopes, contracts, and budgets

  • Build and maintain relationships with municipal agencies, utility providers, and key industry stakeholders

  • Identify new business opportunities and cross-selling initiatives across service lines

  • Represent the organisation at industry conferences, networking events, and professional associations

  • Ensure compliance with technical standards, regulations, and internal quality procedures


qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required

  • Minimum 10 years of related water/wastewater engineering and leadership experience

  • Strong technical expertise in municipal water and wastewater infrastructure systems

  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and complex project delivery

  • Proven business development and client relationship management capabilities

  • Experience managing budgets, profitability targets, and operational performance

  • Strong strategic planning, leadership, and communication skills

  • Previous consulting or A/E/C industry experience preferred
