Our client is seeking a Principal (Water/Wastewater) based in the Houston or Austin, Texas area to lead and grow a water and wastewater practice supporting municipal and industrial clients across the Texas Gulf Coast region.
Our client is a multidisciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy delivering infrastructure solutions across water, wastewater, and industrial sectors. They support complex public and private projects from early planning and design through permitting, construction, and operational optimisation.
This leadership role combines technical oversight, staff development, and business growth responsibilities, with a strong focus on expanding client relationships and building a high-performing regional practice.
responsibilities.
Lead and expand a water and wastewater engineering practice across municipal and industrial sectors
Develop and manage engineering teams delivering treatment and infrastructure projects
Drive business development activities and support growth of new and existing client relationships
Oversee projects involving:
Water treatment facilities
Wastewater treatment plants (biological and physio-chemical systems)
Pumping stations and lift stations
Water storage systems
Sewer interceptors and collection networks
Guide project delivery from conceptual design through permitting, bidding, construction, and commissioning
Provide technical direction on treatment process selection, facility layout, and system integration
Lead or support facility assessments, audits, and performance evaluations
Oversee design basis development, feasibility studies, and technology evaluations
Support operational optimisation, troubleshooting, and system performance improvements
Develop standard operating procedures and assist with operator training initiatives
Prepare technical reports, permit documentation, and regulatory submissions
Interface with clients, contractors, regulators, and local/state authorities
Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineering staff
qualifications.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering discipline (Master’s degree preferred)
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas required
15+ years of experience in water and wastewater engineering projects
Strong background in treatment facility design and process engineering
Experience with:
Plant evaluations and operational audits
Design basis and feasibility development
Technology selection and process optimisation
Startup support and troubleshooting
Data analysis and operational performance review
Proven ability to lead teams and develop technical staff
Demonstrated experience in client engagement and business development
Strong technical writing and reporting capabilities
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing water and wastewater systems
Experience with budgeting and project cost estimating
