A growing firm is seeking a Senior Project Manager in Raleigh, North Carolina to join its expanding Roadway Design team, with a primary focus on hydraulic design. The selected candidate will take the lead in planning and designing drainage systems for multimodal roadway facilities for both public and private sector clients. Projects will include feasibility studies, as well as the design of roadways, sidepaths, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, cycle tracks, and other related facilities. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in hydraulic engineering, water resource engineering, and permitting, particularly within the transportation sector. This role involves overseeing project schedules, ensuring high-quality deliverables, conducting quality control on projects, and handling project administration tasks such as invoicing and billing.

responsibilities.

  • Contribute to business development activities, including the creation of detailed proposals and developing relationships with key clients and teaming partners.

  • Design, review, and oversee the production of plans, contract documents, specifications, and cost estimates suitable for public bid projects.

  • Oversee design, technical analyses, engineering calculations, and preparation of plans, submittal packages, and permitting applications.

  • Design, review, and oversee production plans for offsite roadway improvements to public roads tied to private development projects.

  • Manage project scopes, fees, and schedules for both public and private development-related roadway improvement projects.

  • Coordinate with other internal service lines (such as geomatics and water resources) to develop comprehensive project plans.

  • Ensure high-quality project delivery by adhering to company quality assurance and quality control standards.

  • Actively participate in relevant professional organizations and attend or present at industry conferences.

  • Lead field reviews of projects to support alignment development and make recommendations.

  • Guide projects from feasibility analysis through design, permitting, and successful bidding.

  • Effectively manage subconsultants and ensure seamless collaboration.

  • Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to junior staff members.

  • Deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget to clients.

  • Lead public outreach and community engagement efforts.


qualifications.

  • Strong technical skills in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, scour investigations, erosion and sediment control plans, drainage and stormwater management design, and waterway and NPDES permitting.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering, transportation, or a related field.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (North Carolina PE preferred).

  • 10+ years of experience in hydraulic engineering, water resource engineering, and permitting for transportation projects.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/Geopack/OpenRoads production workflows.

  • Knowledge of AASHTO, NCDOT, and NC municipal guidelines, standards, and procedures.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, clarity, accuracy, and completeness in work.

  • Excellent task management, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Active participation in relevant professional organizations is a plus.

  • Collaborative team player with a passion for high performance.

  • Experience in supervising and mentoring junior staff members.

  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Interest in multimodal transportation design and issues.

  • Experience presenting at industry conferences is a plus.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Experience with HEC-RAS software preferred.

  • Proven experience in project management.

  • Valid driver's license.
