Our client is seeking a Senior Civil Engineering Leader to join their team in Phoenix, Arizona. This is a senior, client-facing role for an experienced civil engineer who can lead complex site-civil design work, support major project delivery, and help strengthen the organisation's civil engineering capability across advanced facilities, manufacturing, technology-led industrial, battery, and semiconductor-related projects.

The role would suit a technically strong civil engineering professional who enjoys combining hands-on design leadership with client engagement, team development, and business growth. The successful candidate will guide multidisciplinary project teams, contribute to strategic client relationships, and provide senior-level expertise across civil engineering planning, design, coordination, quality, budget, and schedule performance.

This is an opportunity to take a visible leadership role within a growing engineering environment, working on high-value projects for major private-sector clients while supporting the development of mid-level engineers and helping shape the future direction of the civil discipline.

responsibilities.

  • Lead the planning, design development, coordination, and delivery of medium to large civil engineering projects, or multiple smaller technically complex projects.

  • Provide senior technical direction across site-civil design, including layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion and sediment control.

  • Make independent engineering decisions on complex design matters, applying sound judgement, practical experience, and innovative problem-solving.

  • Develop and review engineering solutions that meet client objectives, regulatory requirements, quality standards, budget expectations, and project schedules.

  • Act as a trusted technical resource for project teams, sharing specialist knowledge and promoting strong engineering practices.

  • Represent the organisation in client meetings, design reviews, conferences, and project discussions, contributing to decisions on key technical and commercial matters.

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, land development partners, economic development contacts, and other stakeholders in emerging manufacturing and high-tech markets.

  • Support business development activity by identifying opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and contributing technical insight during pursuits and project planning.

  • Oversee coordination between civil engineering and other technical disciplines to support integrated project delivery.

  • Monitor project progress, budgets, schedules, quality control, and deliverables to help ensure successful outcomes.

  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and supervision to engineers and designers, including support on critical issues, unusual design challenges, policy matters, and advanced technical concepts.

  • Help develop mid-level professionals by promoting accountability, technical confidence, and client-focused thinking.

  • Engage directly with clients to clarify scope, communicate progress, address concerns, and support a high level of client satisfaction.

  • Travel occasionally as required for client meetings, site visits, and project needs, typically up to 15%.

qualifications.

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline.

  • Professional Engineer licence required, with the ability or willingness to obtain licensure in the working state where needed.

  • 10+ years of relevant hands-on civil engineering experience.

  • Strong background in site-civil land development design for commercial, manufacturing, industrial, institutional, or similar project environments.

  • Demonstrable experience with site layout, grading, drainage, utility design, and erosion and sediment control.

  • Experience leading civil engineering work on medium to large projects, or multiple concurrent complex assignments.

  • Strong understanding of project budgets, schedules, quality control, interdisciplinary coordination, and client delivery expectations.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to clients, colleagues, project teams, and external stakeholders.

  • Comfortable working in a visible, client-facing leadership role.

  • Strong networking skills and an interest in developing relationships within the local business, development, and project delivery community.

  • Ability to mentor and support the development of engineers and technical staff.

  • Valid driver's licence required, unless not applicable due to assignment location or specific circumstances.
